Jesus Christ is the most influential person who ever lived. He is mankind’s ultimate thought leader and agent for change. In John 14:6 Jesus declares, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” After changing the world over two thousand years ago, Jesus is still alive and well and today over two billion people are following his teachings.
One key to Jesus’ greatness is revealed in John 6:38 when he says: “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” Jesus did “the will of him who sent me” which is to say he always obeyed his Father. Jesus was perfect because he was perfectly obedient.
Jesus’ life was a yielded life. He emphasizes this fact with his own words in these additional verses from the Gospel of John:
“The Son can do nothing by himself.” (John 5:19)
“I do not accept praise from men.” (John 5:41)
“I am not here on my own.” (John 7:28)
“I am not seeking glory for myself.” (John 8:50)
“For I did not speak of my own accord.” (John 12:49)
“It is the Father … who is doing his work.” (John 14:10)
Jesus completed all the work he was sent to do. He heard and followed his Father’s voice. Jesus was focused despite the world’s noise. He was always secure in his beliefs and decisive in his actions. Jesus never wavered, wasn’t wishy-washy, and always made the right calls.
Just as Jesus yielded to his Father, you can yield to Jesus.
When you consistently obey Jesus and his Word, your life becomes more purposeful and productive. No situational ethics and no second-guessing of your decisions. The yielded life is simple and uncomplicated–do what God tells you to do and leave the rest to him.
Who better to be your workplace guide than Jesus Christ? He is the personification of greatness and every worker’s perfect role model. Colossians 1:15 says, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” Mirror his values and not the world’s.
A yielded life produced good results for Jesus and it will produce good results for you.
